PROPAGANDA
△
Since the beginning, my gaze has been drawn to the urban landscape, to the details that weave the fabric of the city. For this series, I became interested in the walls that speak: these torn, damaged posters, endlessly covered over. Each new layer erases the previous one, creating invisible strata of history, a palimpsest of the immediate.
Much like the city itself, which is built in successive layers, these walls are archives of the ephemeral. By using the in-camera multiple exposure feature of my cameras, I sought to make these strates burst forth. To reveal all at once what is usually hidden.
What then appears is the raw material of the "spirit of the city": a collision of cultural events, political messages, and commercial announcements. "Propaganda" is not an indictment, but the rendering of a visual chaos where all voices, at a given moment, attempt to dominate.
