FOSSILES
❊
The initial idea was that of a herbarium, but one dedicated to trees. I have always been moved by the melancholic poetry of a notebook filled with dried flowers and plants, these vestiges of a life gone by.
With every encounter with a remarkable tree or copse, I captured it to preserve it in my digital herbarium. Through long exposures and camera movements, I sought to dematerialize the photographic rendering, to bring it closer to painting.
The result evokes those plant fossils imprinted in stone. In these photographs, the trees elude all identification; they become species emerging from a prehistoric past, botanical phantoms frozen in time.
